Flintwood’s respite services give you space and time when you need it
Flintwood offers short term centre based and flexible respite for people with disabilities and their caregivers. It can be just for a day, overnight, or for several nights.
How respite helps you and your family/carers
Everyone needs a break now and again. Respite allows you to have some space, time to yourself or get away from the daily routine for a little while. This is a healthy and important part of the long-term caring relationship you have with your family and caregivers. Flintwood are here to support both you and your support network and respite is an important part of this.
You’re eligible for respite if you’re:
- 16 years and over
- Have a disability e.g. intellectual, physical, sensory, ABI
- Live with your family or a caregiver
- Have an NDIS package for short term accommodation
What happens at respite?
While at respite you could be involved in a number of activities, these could include recreation and leisure activities or be more learning based.
Respite could mean getting out and about with a trip to the local shops, movies, the pool or the beach, it could be a picnic in a National Park or lunch at a café.
It also could give you a chance to learn new skills in a group environment and our staff can guide you as you learn personal and independence skills in one of our respite locations.
Respite is meant to be fun and a break from the day-to-day routine. We’re interested in hearing about what you like to do in your spare time so we can expand our services to meet your needs.
Respite is also the opportunity to spend time with people you may have met before at a Flintwood location or activity. We are keen for you to develop strong relationships and friendships with the people you meet during your time in respite.
