Marcello’s Story

By Marcello Cioci

I have always been artistic. I used to paint and draw when I was younger. As time went by and my epilepsy progressed I lost the ability to paint with my hands because they shake or spasm.

Being a creative person I needed to find a different means in which to express this artistic ability. I have a deep love for music especially Elvis and over my time with Flintwood I have recorded a couple of CD’s. The latest of which have been recorded in a professional studio with the help of my support worker Stuart. My music is my passion and I appreciate Flintwood helping me out with the professional recording of this CD. During the recording of this CD I decided I wanted to take some photographs for the album cover and whilst doing this found my love for

During the recording of this CD I decided I wanted to take some photographs for the album cover and whilst doing this found my love for modelling. I have now done many shoots with my other support worker Rowanna, in many different locations around Sydney and with many different themes.

More recently I have added another creative aspect to the modelling. I now edit all the photos giving them my artistic touch. Through my day program and the help of my support workers I have been able to be that artist again.

Now instead of painting I have learnt the skills of being artistic through the computer using programs like Picasa as my new artistic means. Through this article and sharing all that I have done, especially in the last year, I hope to inspire other people with a disability and let them know it is possible to achieve anything. I am a natural teacher and I have always wanted to mentor others, I now feel I have the opportunity to help others by sharing all that I have achieved.

My next project with my day program is to slowly record more music and continue with my modelling. I am finding it fun to be a model and can see my skills improving with every shoot. I would also like to have a photo exhibition to show a selection of my modelling shots. It was great to do a professional shoot for this article and I hope to do more articles and interviews to inspire people in the future. I now have 5 CD’s for sale. I am also a philosopher and love talking about worldly issues. Come find me at my favourite Thai restaurant in St Marys or if you prefer Hooters in Penrith and we can have a great chat, you can listen to one of my CD’s and I can show you my latest photo shoot
