Dear Participants, families and employees,
Firstly, I want to thank you all for working with us through this Pandemic and challenging times. We have been successful in keeping a COVID – 19 free environment at all sites but this requires daily and at times hourly monitoring, quick action and sound decision making.
We are taking the guidelines from NSW Health seriously and actioning all of their recommendations. They are communicating effectively with the Disability sector which is a positive move as we have been left to our own devices prior to this.
We must make the hard decisions and at times this may conflict with individuals’ thoughts, but our role is to ensure we take whatever actions necessary to protect our people.
Victoria is experiencing out of control outbreaks and we are closely monitoring NSW to see if we will head down the same path. We are in prevention mode and will be making decisions for our people before they are rolled out to the greater population.
There will be times of lockdown, lock outs -no visitors on sites, little family contact and the high use of IT for communication. Families from accommodation will need to make joint decisions for everyone living in the homes and we will need to negotiate and think of the greater good for all. We have a zero tolerance to abuse and we ask that any communication is always respectful.
Employees will be required to wear masks at all times, whilst at work by the end of the week which will affect communication and interactions. We will need to work together to make sure the Participants understand the changes and feel comfortable.
This is going to be a long journey, so it is important that you read the weekly updates from Flintwood to keep you informed.
This is not a time to be complacent in any practice or decision making. We need to monitor each other to ensure we keep high standards of support and protection.
I ask for your cooperation through this time and work with us to ensure we keep all Participants and employees safe.
