Board of Directors

The board of directors is made up of nine voluntary members, including: President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Public Officer and three additional members. These members bring to the board a diverse range of skills and represent direct stakeholders (Participants) and non-direct stakeholder (community).

 

The board of directors has a strategic role and makes major decisions on policy, long-term goals, legal matters and finance, maintaining the vision of providing a flexible service that enhances the opportunities of people with disabilities, enabling them have a varied and fulfilling life within the community.

 

Day to day decision making is delegated to the Management Team.

Current Position: Chairman

Years on Board: 13 years

 

Background: 37 years’ experience in the Electronics/ IT/Telecommunication industry with the last 12 years working in senior roles on local and international projects. Currently contracting part time in IT industry.

Interests: People management, Complex problem solving & Negotiating Skills, Meeting Project deadlines.

Reward: Doing something for the community and being involved with an organisation that provides quality service for people with disabilities.

Sharon Foord

Current Position: Vice Chairman

Years on Board: 6 years

 

Background: 30 years in local government in management positions. Strong customer service background. Studying marketing and disability.

Interests: Helping others, people management, running projects with great results.

Reward: Working with the CEO and Board Members to ensure Flintwood Disabilities continues to provide the right services to people with disabilities and to create an environment of innovation.

Gordon McLean

Gordon McLean

 

Position: Director

Years on Board: 20+ years

 

Background: Worked in the banking industry for 41 years as a Senior Branch Manager, International banking, Regional Business Development Manager.

Interests: Long background in Finance and general financial skills associated with both banking and business.

Reward: Enjoying seeing the Flintwood Disabilities organisation grow and prosper by delivering first class facilities and programs to all Participants. Friendships established with both staff and Management Board members

Sigrid Rottman

Sigrid Rottman

 

Current Position:   Committee Member

Years on Committee:  14 Years on the Committee, 8 Years as Secretary

 

Background:  Worked in Industrial Lighting/Electrical and the Fashion Industry as Secretary
 for 8 Years in Germany. Worked as Secretary for the Production Control
 Manager at Crown Corning for 2 Years. Worked as Counter Officer and Manager at Carlingford Court Post Office since 2003.
  Honorary Member/Director of a Disability Charity holding the
 positions of Vice President/Secretary/Treasurer over 28 Years. Worked on the 
Camp Lionheart Project Committee raising $550,000 for Children with an Acquired Brain Injury for 10 Years and counting! Joint Carlingford Dundas Lions Club in 2002 holding the Positions of Secretary and being the Treasurer for 2017/2018!



Skills:  Qualified Secretary (3 Years Business School in Germany), Associate Diploma in Business (Accounting)

Reward:  Being able to contribute to see Flintwood Disability Services Inc. grow, expand and provide programs and services of excellence to all our service users and creating a high profile in the Disability Industry.

Ray Engelbrecht

Current Position: Director

Years on Board: 15 years

 

Background: Accrued professional experience over 35 years in areas of professional expertise including business management, project management, and land development management having acted in roles such as engineering consultancy office manager, state manager, and project manager.

Interests: Motorcycle touring, target shooting of feral animal control, camping

Reward: By being on the Board of Management I am able to assist Flintwood Disabilities Services to provide an ever improving quality of services to all our Participants and families.

Current Position: Director

Years on Board: 3 years

 

Background: I am a local Resident in the Hills district. Married with 2 children, I am a pre-paid Funeral Consultant for Guardian, Simplicity and Ann Wilson Funerals.

Interests: Active member in our local Church, Motorbike Riding, Movies and Family.

Reward: Being part of a group that is interested in the lives of family members with a disability and to make a positive difference in their lives.

Current Position: Director

Years on Board: 1 1/2 years

 

Background: 48 years involvement in educational environments; 23 years in high school teaching and 25 years in higher education administration and marketing.  Currently participating in teaching health and lifestyle change.

Interests: Serving the community via hospital activities, acquiring knowledge and strategies in healthcare management and photography.

Reward: To contribute towards an organisation that provides high quality services to people with disabilities. Following the progress and self-independence of the Participants.

Brian Conway

Current Position: Director

Years on Board: 17 years

 

Background: Teacher of students who are blind or have vision impairment for 30+ years. Teacher of students with multiple disabilities. Administrator of schools and programmes for students with sensory impairment. Immediate Past President/Executive of an international organisation responsible for developing standards for producing materials in accessible formats.

Interests: Educational administration; Blindness issues; Print disability issues.

Reward: To contribute to the development of quality services for adults with disabilities.

Helana Laves

Helana Laves

 

Years on Board: 2 years

 

Helena started her career in accounting. Together with her husband Phillip, they went into small business which ran for over 25 years until 2008. She then decided to start a new career in community services. Helena have a diploma in Community Services and Case Management and currently works at Hills Community Care.  Helena has a strong commitment to  helping older people and younger people with disability to help them stay involved and maintain links with the community
